this years project for my yard haunt is a new (old) picket fence around my graveyard. last year we had a smaller yard and the fake wrought iron worked but it was my weekest link and had to go with the old house this year the biggest test would be to do 80 ft. of fence on the budget the dark mistress allows me. I started at the local big box lumbar yard they have stockade fence it mesures 8FT. wide and 6ft. tall the slats are 6in. wide and butted next to each other. first we cut the fence in half making 2 8x3 pieces next remove every other board this gives you 2 picket sections with boards to make 2 more sections you will also need to purchase furing strips these are 8 ft long by 2in wide by 3/4 in thick these you use as the cross pieces you attach the left over slats to. I purchased 3 sections and made 96ft. of fence i recomend building the fence complete first before you distress it it makes for a more realistic effect (build it then distroy it)
this fence will look to new so next you need to stain it i started with some black spray paint hit some fo the cross pieces or areas that you want look deeper, then wash the fence with a mix of brown and gray paint watered down afetr this is dry wash a few areas with a mix of green and brown paint this will give it a rotting or mossy efect. I finish the fence with webb and spanish moss this project cost me $62 i got the fence 1/2 off becaus it was damaged (great) furing strips cost .99 each and the oops paint section at the paint store is my favorite place. i would love to hear if anyone has an sugestions on how to improve what i have done.
Darth!! Thanks for sharing your project with us! looks like you got some good results and at an excellent price! Are you thinking of using a fog chiller in your cemetery? Having low lying fog coming thru the fence would look great! When you have a chance would love to see a photo with the spanish moss on the fence.
i will have more pix up this weekend boarding up the windows and putting up the dead trees this weekend then i will be redy for the details i will try to post a video this weekend as well
thanks.
This would make a great Halloween post card. Which reminds me that Joel had several cards created of his prints and sold them in packs for like $25...have you dont this yet?
